The Do's and Don'ts of Keeping in Touch While Travelling

Hello Wonderful People!

Staying in contact with friends and family can be a worry, or a pain, for many travellers. It can be expensive thanks to roaming charges and inconvenient thanks to time zones. There are also a lot of better things you could be doing with your time and money while on your travel adventure. So, I've put together a little list of do's and don'ts to help save your phone bill from a bashing while also being able to stay in regular contact with those you've left behind.

Do Use and Abuse Free Wifi

Wifi is such and easy commodity that pretty much everywhere has it. While I was travelling I never really struggled to find free wifi. It really is a God send when you want to catch up with those at home, without spending a packet on phone bills. Most hostels have free wifi, or charge a small amount for the password. But if you are struggling to find any, head to McDonalds (let's be honest, they're everywhere) and you are guaranteed free wifi there. Just don't get tempted by the food, or you'll start pilling on (and spending) the pounds.

Don't be Tempted to Use Your Phone

Data charges are ridiculously expensive when you're abroad, so always make sure you turn off your phones data roaming to avoid any nasty surprise phone bills. And don't be tempted to use your internet even for a 'quick Facebook check', this could turn into a nasty habit that could prove very costly. Wifi is your best bet for a free and easy communication, save those pennies for something worth doing - don't fritter them away on needless internet use!

Do Take Lots of Pictures

You know what they say, a picture speaks a thousand words. There is no better way to remember your trip than by taking loads of pictures, so you can relive the memories when you're back home. So get snap happy and don't be afraid to photos. Remember to upload them to good old Facebook, so all your friends and family can have a good old stalk and see what you're up to!

Don't Update Your Status Every 20 Minutes

It can be tempting to update your status all the time in an attempt to make everyone super jealous of your time travelling. But try and keep the statuses to minimum. You don't want to annoy everyone and seem boastful; let your pictures do the talking and send your nearest and dearest private messages to keep them updated on your day to day activities.

Do Download Apps
Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Skype, Viber. All of these apps are great for keeping in touch with people anywhere, anytime. So get on the hype and download these bad-boys, hook up to some wifi and you'll be laughing. You could send a picture, tweet an update or make a call, all for free. Yay for technology!

Till next time peeps!
