Why I'd Love to Ski in Canada & Why You Should Start Planning a Trip There Now

I know at this time of year people are usually planning trips away in the sunshine; but (if you're organised) these will have been planned for quite a few months in advance. Now is actually a good time to get ahead of the crowd and be thinking about winter holidays. Summer has just arrived and the majority of people aren’t thinking of a winter holiday just yet, so it's the perfect time to book! Plus, booking early means you can usually can get amazing prices and deals. Skiing and snowboarding holidays are such fun, even if you are a beginner! They're my favourite type of holiday so are the perfect choice for a winter getaway. I would love to ski in Canada one day, so I’m sharing my love for all things Canadian today. I've been there in the summer before, but it would be a great destination choice for a winter holiday!

Blackcomb, Whistler Mountain
First of all, the ski resorts are some of the best in the world. They are well equipped and perfect for all levels. Having clear, mapped out routes is a must. Then you can just stick to the level you are happy with. The resorts are great and have fantastic facilities. Can we just think about the number of winter Olympic games that have taken place over in Canada? You just know that they will be well equipped!

You could  visit a resort like Whistler, just north of Vancouver or you could take a trip to Banff, a bit further in and near to Calgary. Mount-Sainte-Anne is a great resort in the French Canadian area of the country so you can enjoy a little French culture with the skiing. The destinations are all varied, but you can be guaranteed to enjoy an awesome holiday filled with great winter sports. You could even try your hand at something you have never done before, like snowmobiling or sledding.

Cross Country Skiing

With a trip to Canada, it can be a little pricier than going to Europe (for me over in London anyway), so now is the time to be looking at flights. When you've booked your flights and accommodation, it's a good idea to make sure you've got all the correct paperwork. You need to have an Official Canada eTA visa to enter the country - so make sure you've applied for one before you travel. Then you can book the exciting things like lift passes and equipment hire!

It is so important to have a specific travel insurance for winter sports. If you just have a generic insurance, and then get injured from skiing, the chances are the insurance will be invalid. Make sure you have this before you fly too. You don’t want to risk the chance of an injury and then having to cover the cost of it.

Planning ahead is key to a successful winter ski holiday. So now is the perfect time. I hope this has given you a little inspiration to get booking a ski holiday; whether it is in Canada or not!
