Where to Enjoy the Sun in London

Summer is nearly upon us which means endless sunny days are just round the corner. Well, when I say endless sunny days, I actually mean the odd day here and there. Let's be honest British summers are usually a wash out, so when the sun decides to grace our presence with its rays we need to make the most of it. I love London, but it's not the best place to be when the weather is hot. Outdoor space is limited, you have to fight for a square inch of grass in every park and don't even get me started on the tube. Despite this there are some great places to head to if the weather heats up this summer. Just remember to mentally prepare for the crowds, as the chances are 9 million other Londoners will have the same idea.

Hyde Park

Rooftop

Radio Rooftop - The Strand
You can't beat a good rooftop bar in the sun, and Radio Rooftop is a great place to go, just be prepared for the prices! Located on the roof of the ME Hotel, Radio Rooftop has amazing, panoramic views on the city. There's a spacious outdoor area that sweeps round the top of the building, as well as inside space so you can take cover if the weather takes a turn for the worst. And let's be honest, this is pretty likely. The views come with a price however, £9 for a glass of house wine was slightly painful. I'm a sucker for a view though, so didn't mind too much!

Beer Garden

Duke of Edinburgh - Brixton
If rooftops aren't your thing, then head to the beer garden at the Duke of Edinburgh. Finding a decent beer garden in London is like discovering the holy grail, as the majority of London pubs can only boast the pavement as an outdoor area. The beer garden at DoE is HUGE, which is a rarity in London, so you're chances of finding a space are significantly increased. Plus is has an outdoor bar, ample seating and a crazy golf course. That's my summer sorted.

Pop-up

Brixton Beach Boulevard - Brixton
This gem of a pop-up, which has a 1980s Miami theme, is a short walk from Brixton tube station and is a great open-space to spend a sunny evening. If you ignore the railway arches and frequent trains, you could almost imagine you actually are on the beach. There's a good selection of food and frozen cocktails to quench your thirst, all served from little beach huts. Get there early to grab a deck-chair or picnic table, or chill out on the sand if you're too late.

Boat

Tattershall and castle - Embankment
I love this boat, it's a great place to grab a pint after work when the weather is nice. The views from the boat are pretty special and you really feel like you're in the heart of London life. Despite it's location (smack bang in front of the London Eye, just down from Big Ben) you won't find it rammed with tourists either and the prices aren't extortionate either. You can get food on board, and I've had lunch there before but wouldn't particularly recommend it. Drinks on the top deck are what make this place a bit different from your usual London rooftop or beer garden!

Do you have any secret spots in London where you enjoy the sun?
