What Kind Of Traveller Are You?

Travelling may be your passion. Or it may be that thing you do once a year for your family vacation. Perhaps you have dreams of globetrotting, or you hope to travel in style one day. Do you love cruises, or does the romance of a train ride beckon? We’re all different, yet most of us have at least one destination we hope to travel to on our bucket lists. So what kind of traveller are you?

Most of us know the journey is a big part of any vacation. Does your preferred method of travel define you? Perhaps you love flying so you can admire the view from the clouds? Or maybe you just like getting to your destination as quickly as possible! If you prefer to travel by RV chances are your vacation is more about the journey than the destination. Perhaps you just enjoy having your creature comforts from home along for the ride?

Of course, travel by land can influence your destination choices too. If you’re on a road trip, it certainly gives you more opportunities to travel off the beaten path. And if you’re the one doing the driving, it gives you the power to decide what to see and when. Of course, there will always be a need for rest stops. But that could also be part of the allure of a road trip. Chances to meet other like-minded people, or to stop off in dozens of little towns on the way is a great reason to travel this way. I've done this several times; in New Zealand, Australia and Europe. Road tripping is possibly one of my favourite types of trip, purely because of the freedom it allows!

If driving isn’t really for you when you’re on vacation, you could always book a chauffeur. Hiring a limo to take you from place to place can leave you to enjoy the view in the lap of luxury. If you’re heading to a spa retreat for the weekend, why not enjoy a luxurious journey there and back? It can be nice to use a limo service to get you to the airport and back when you have a long haul flight and you’re tired.

If you love backpacking (like me), chances are very little of your journey is planned or pre-booked. You might hop on and off local transport like buses and trains. This can be a really exciting way to explore new places and spend more time with local people. It can also provide the best views of the places you want to experience. Travelling this way also gives you the chance to hear the local language, meet interesting people, and get a flavour of the culture. Best of all, it can be done on a small budget.

Getting to your destination can be great fun and an adventure. Or it can be that annoying part of any vacation you take. Most of us book our holiday for the destination itself. It might be a resort or hotel. It could be a campsite or cabin in the mountains. Whether you’re heading to the beach or the biggest spa retreat in the world, your journey there could still be the best part of your vacation.
