Guest Post // Surfs Up in Australia - Best Spots

Australia is the surfing Mecca of the world. It always has been and it will definitely stay that way. The surfing culture goes deep in the cultural heritage of Aussies and surfing is much more than just a sport or a pastime here. Having that in mind, as well as the fact that Australia is an island continent – it is easy to figure out that there are some unbelievably awesome surfing spots here. Here are those spots that are usually considered the best in Australia.

Surfers Paradise, QLD
It is absolutely impossible to go to surf in Australia and avoid Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast. This is one of the most popular surfing spots, as well as touristic places. Thousands of people who surf at all levels come here to try out these waves. Therefore, even if you are a beginner or an advanced surfer, you will have your spot for sure.

Surfers Paradise

Bell’s Beach, VIC
The oldest of the surfing competitions, Rip Curl Pro takes place near Torquay. It is on the Bell’s Beach and is an absolute must-see for every surfing lover. The waves can get as high as five meters! If you don't think you can handle these waters, this place is still worth the trip, just to see some pros in action.

Bell’s Beach

The Well, VIC
This is the place to go if you're a seasoned pro who does loves the reefs in the waters and the wild waves above their head. The name comes from the fact that there is a steep cliff on the entrance to the water and you need to jump 4m into the water and climb it back to exit.

Boomerang Beach, NSW
If you are in New South Wales, this is definitely one of the best beaches to go to. It caters for all levels of surfing experience, so you don't have to worry if you're out of your league. Also, now and then, some cute dolphins come to visit and you may end up surfing and swimming with them around. There is also a campsite nearby if you want to turn this into an adventure.

Boomerang Beach

Long Reef, NSW
The northern part of the beach is called the Long Reef Headland, a protected aquatic reserve, and near by is a golf course. If you walk to the headland you can often see migrating whales which is a spectacular thing to experience.
The best place to catch waves is the northern part of the beach; on weekdays there's a pretty good chance of getting a quality wave to yourself. The Long Reef Bomboras starts to break at one metre or so and in a big south swell can produce a beautiful wave up to five metres. This beach is great for intermediate surfers because of it’s reliable sandbanks. It’s a favorite destination for kitesurfing and one of the most popular outdoor wedding venues in Sydney.

Long Reef

Margaret River, WA
Rivers in Australia also make excellent surfing spots. Margaret River, being one of them, is definitely one of the most amazing places to go surfing. On the other hand, this is the area where some amazing wine is produced, so going surfing there may just end up as wine tasting.

Margaret River

Esperance, WA
All the islands and reefs around this place make Esperance one of the most amazing surfing surfs. Do not be surprised if you spot some whales on their way, because this is one of the places of their migration. Sea lions and fur seals are present at some of the islands and it definitely makes the best place for surfing around. The waves here are sometimes referred to as “Cyclops”, so be careful there.

Wherever you choose to go surfing, make sure that you check the prognosis and forecasts. There are many websites where you can not only see the forecast, but also check out the CCTV from the very beach. This will make the planning far easier.
