Guest Post // TummyTraveling - A Culinary Sydney Itinerary

Hello Wonderful People!

Some people let their friends decide about their travel itinerary, others – their tour agents, third leave the decision to their heads, while I like to let my tummy lead the way. And this time it has chosen well – Sydney. This city is a true foodie paradise and it can offer a variety of experiences for the taste buds, while at the same time not neglecting the aesthetics of a dish. Sydney is home to many world class chefs, innovative dining venues, and delicious street food, so it is no wonder why I (and my tummy) am so fascinated by it. So, if you want to have a culinary adventure in Sydney, here are my suggestions.

Explore the Markets
For me, markets are the best way to truly sense the spirit of a city and get a real taste of locally produced foods. In Australia, in general, it is very important and appreciated to support local farmers by buying domestically grown food. At the market, you can even get a taste of some local favourites, such as roasted nuts or hot buttery roti. I would recommend you to take your time and visit several markets: Entertainment Quarter Village Markets, Sydney Morning Herald Grower’s Market, Addison Road Farmer’s Market, etc.

Have a Secret Foodies Adventure
This is one of the most amazing things happening on the Sydney food scene right now. If you like unique and adventurous dining experiences, this is your cup of tea. All you need to do is to purchase a ticket for a dinner and you will receive instructions telling you where to go 2 hours prior. Do not worry though, there is zero chance you will end up in some dump. On the contrary, Secret Foodies are all about classy dining experience, and wherever you go, there will be a chef treating you like a VIP guest. Ideas such as this are all about bringing people who love food and wine together and creating new experiences.

Eat on the Street
Sydney street food is nothing like the fast heavy meals you would usually find on the streets of some other city. You will find abundance of Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Turkish, and Korean street food restaurants where you will be able to try some of the most delicious bites in your life. I was dazzled by subtly smoky baba ganoush in The Sultan’s Table (Enmore), captivated by Brooklyn Hide bagels and in love with Viet Hoa Hot Bread’s pork rolls (banh mi).

Visit Sydney’s Top Restaurants

Café Mint is a trendy restaurant in the most hip area, Surry Hills. Besides the delicious meals, and an amazing breakfast choices, Café Mint has a wide offering of boutique wines, and I have even used my wine app there to get a free bottle. How great, right?

The Bridge Room is a venue between fine dining and bistro, with a calming décor and thoughtfully served, European inspired dishes.

Aria boasts some of the best views in the city – both to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The food is just as amazing. The chef Matt Moran constantly delivers modern cuisine with class and comfort.

Silvereye is located in a trendy Sydney suburb – Chippendale. The food amazed me with a strong natural aspect and focus on vegetable and herbs. The modern approaches to traditional techniques, such as fermenting, pickling, salting, smoking and curing are better than anything you could ever imagine.

Momofuku Seiobo one of the most fascinating restaurants I have visited in Sydney. The food is Japanese, but with a striking Australian appeal. The chefs obviously trying really hard to strike a balance between experimenting and class and the wines are simply exhilarating.

These were just some ways to experience the vivid food scene of Sydney. Make sure you go beyond that and have your own unique culinary adventure. Bon appetite!
