Ways To Explore What Finland Has To Offer

Hello Wondrful People!

There's a lot to explore in Finland. It's a more diverse and interesting part of the world than you might imagine, and is definitely up there with one of the next European countries I'd like to visit. Here are a few different ways I'd like to explore the country.

Learn to Ski
You can’t come to this wintry part of the world without learning how to ski. It’s one of the best parts of the world for skiers, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn the basics if you’re a beginner. There are slopes all over the country, but the best ones can be found in the furthest north regions of the country. The slopes that are most popular are in Lapland where the weather is coldest throughout the year. The descents are perfectly suited to people who don’t have lots of skiing experience too. That’s because most of the slopes in Finland lie at quite a low altitude, so the strain on the skier is reduced.

Catch an Ice Hockey Game

Canada, America and Russia aren’t the only countries that love ice hockey. Alongside Slovakia and Sweden, Finland is one of the best countries in the world when it comes to ice hockey. They have a thriving national league with games taking place most weeks, so buy yourself some tickets to a game. If you’ve never been to an ice hockey game before, you’ll be taken aback by the atmosphere and the energy of the game. But ice hockey isn’t actually Finland’s national sport; that’s a sport called pesapallo. It’s a strange name, but it’s basically a variation of baseball - it’s not quite as fun to watch as ice hockey if you ask me though.

Enjoy the Winter Wonderland

Going to Lapland during the Christmas period is great fun for adults and children alike. You could book a holiday with a family tour operator, and make the most of the beautiful winter wonderland. It really is magical, and the area is made even more magical by the tour operators who turn Lapland into the home of Santa. This will suit families with small children best, but there are other things you can do in Lapland to keep the adults happy. Northern Finland is one of the best places in the world to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, so you could go hunting for them on the right night.

Be Surprised by Cosmopolitan Helsinki

You probably don’t associate Finland with trendy cities and cultural hubs. But you might be surprised by what you find when you visit the capital city, Helsinki. It combines modern cultural attractions with a youthful nightlife. It’s great for young people who want to party because, at some times of the year, the city gets 20 hours of daylight, leaving little time for sleep! The art scene is great too. There are lots of great museums and galleries to explore once you get tired of all the clubbing and partying. This balance between culture and high-intensity fun is great. Make sure you check out the National Museum of Finland and the Finnish Art Gallery.
