My Marrakech Recommendations

  مرحبا شعب رائع

Marrakech has been on my 'must visit' list for a while now, and my trip there definitely didn't disappoint! In fact, I loved it so much that I've already planned an itinerary for the next time I visit! Yes, there will be a next time! I went for 4 nights, which gave us the perfect amount of time to explore without feeling too rushed. The weather was also amazing, a cool 37 degree every day, which is apparently mega hot for this time of year! It was also pretty cheap and I only spent just over £100 during the holiday, and considering we ate out twice a day and went on a day trip, I think that's pretty good going!

Where to Stay?
We booked our flights and accommodation through Easyjet for £360 pp, so we didn't really have a massive clue as to what the accommodation was going to be like. I'm not a fussy traveler, and never mind scrimping on accommodation if it means I have more money to get out and explore. After all, you usually only spend time in your accommodation during the evenings anyway, so it's never a massive deal for me. However, Riad Sidi Mimoune (check it out here) was amazing and I could have happily wasted a few hours each day in the beautiful, tranquil little riad. There was a small pool in the central courtyard/ lobby and a massive roof terrace, with views over the city. The rooms and communal areas were also beautifully decorated, I just absolutely loved the style of the place. The location was also pretty perfect, located in the median, the riad was a 10/15 minute stroll from the main square Jemaa el-Fna. Plus it was only a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport, which was ideal.

What to See?
The Souks had to be my favorite part of Marrakech and no trip to the city would be complete without checking them out. Be prepared to get extremely lost as the souks are a maze of alleyways that all jumble into one. It's great to spend an afternoon getting lost between the stalls, trying to find a bargain. You can buy anything from spices to handbags in the souks, but always be prepared to barter in order to get the best price!

Where to go?
If you fancy a trip out of the city then there are a few options you can take, depending on how much time you have. The most popular trips are to the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara or to the costal town Essaouira. As we didn't have loads of time, we decided to go on a day trip to Essaouira. I'm saving the Sahara and Atlas Mountains for my next trip! It took around 3 hours to get there and cost about £25 for a return ticket on a minibus. Essaouira was a lovely little place with lots of little streets connecting together within the main walls of the town. You could also head up onto the cannon-lined walls to peek out over the Atlantic. There's also a huge beach, which was lovely to spend an afternoon on, lounging around in the sun.

What to eat?
When in Marrakech, you have to try a tajine! You'll have to try pretty hard to find a restaurant that doesn't serve one, and they are guaranteed to be delicious! I obviously only had the vegetarian tajine, but there are so many different meaty varieties, that you'll be stuck for choice! The same goes for cous cous! Eating in the main square, Jemaa el-Fna, in the evenings is also an absolute must! The square comes alive at night with tens of street food stalls, where you can get an amazing meal for a few quid! Plus it's a great experience! I'd also recommend trying the mint tea. This is extremely popular and you'll see it served in most restaurants and cafes in little silver tea pots. They look super cute and it's super tasty!
