Lake Tekapo

Hello Wonderful People!

Our last stop in New Zealand, before dropping the van off in Christchurch and making our way back to Auckland (to take our long flight back to the UK, boo), was Lake Tekapo. We were lucky enough to visit on a beautiful day, but even in bad weather I can't imagine the lake would look any less magnificent.

We drove the van up to a hill top observatory to the left of the lake and took a walk around to take in the stunning 360 degree scenery. The high ground gave us an amazing view of the beautifully clear blue lake and the snow capped mountains beyond. We also took the time to have a little photo shoot, to take some cracking group shots.

After spending an hour or so on the hill, soaking up the scenery, we headed down into the town to get closer to the lake. We pulled up in a car park and took a short walk to the famous Good Shepherd Church, that sits on the shores of the lake. Not only is the church beautiful, the view from inside, out across the lake is breath taking. It was one of the most utterly serene places I have ever been. I even took my book (Lord of the Rings, obvs) to have a little read on the grass to chill and enjoy the beauty before me.

Lake Tekapo is just another example of how completely and utterly breath taking New Zealand is. Words and pictures can not do justice to the awe inspiring nature of this country, but they help to convey some of it. And they provide me with amazing memories and the inspiration to one day return.
