Top 5 Things to do in Vietnam

Xin chào mọi người tuyệt vời
Vietnam was easily one of the most beautiful and amazing countries I've visited; from it's stunning scenery, to it's diverse history and culture, Vietnam is one country that should be on everyone's travel hit list.

Ha Long Bay
Located in North Vietnam and consisting of nearly 2000 small islands, Ha Long Bay is the most serene and utterly beautiful place I have ever been. You can take a variety of boat trips around the bay, stay on some of the stunning islands, kayak through clear blue waters, explore some amazing caves or visit a floating village. Watching the sunset while anchored in an isolated part of the bay is one of my most treasured travelling memories. Experiencing the wonder of Ha Long Bay is a must do when travelling in Vietnam, it's not a World Herritage Site for nothing!

Chu Chi Tunnles
If you're interested in, or have ever learnt about the Vietnam war, a visit to the Chu Chi Tunnles on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh (formerly Saigon), is an absolute must! It is truly fascinating to learn how the Viet Cong lived for years in these tiny underground tunnels, and how this large network beneath the surface ultimately helped in their war success. You can have a guided group tour through the jungle where an expert shows you several hidden booby traps and explains the detailed history of the tunnels. If you're claustrophobic then venturing below ground will really be a test of your nerve, but it serves as a stark reminder that thousands of Viet Cong lived in these conditions for years.

Vinpearl
One thing that probably doesn't spring to mind when thinking of Vietnam is a giant theme park, but Vinpearl is just that! Located on its own private island just off the coast of Nha Trang, Vinpearl is a huge water park, with rides, slides, shops, cinemas and beaches! It even has its name displayed on the mountainside in the style of the Hollywood sign, fancy! To access the island there is a cable across the sea, yep you heard, across the sea! Once you've arrived on the island there is a multitude of activities to keep you entertained and the park caters for all ages! You can either head to the water park, have a go on some fair ground rides, go for a spot of shopping, relax on the beach or go to the arcade and cinema! All of this comes for the equivalent of around £16 (if my memory is correct), so while it is massively touristy it's also a great and cheap day out!

Thap Ba Hot Springs

Having never personally been to a spa before I have nothing to compare this against, but I had the most relaxing time and it was a complete bargain! There are no time limits on how long you can spend in each area, even though they give you a recommendation, so you can really make a whole day of it! There a mud baths, mineral pools, hot and cold swimming pools, waterfalls and massage areas. The mud pool was by far the best, a giant tub is filled with mud while you soak in it, then you go off to lie in the sun and let the mud bake to your body! A cold shower is then needed before you head over to the mineral pools to treat your skin even more! Prices vary, which is pretty standard practice in Vietnam, so do some shopping around before you commit. We managed to get a deal that included transport there and back, plus the entry fee for around £10. Can't complain!

The War Remnants Museum
Located in Ho Chi Mhin this museum is another must see if you're interested in the Vietnam war. It gives a fascinating insight into the Vietnamese perspective of the conflict and the troubles still facing the country as a result of the war. There are several disturbing images dotted all over the museum, that act as a vivid reminder of the utter horrors of war and the violence faced by the population. Even if you're not a history buff, I would recommend a visit to the museum as the war has shaped huge parts of Vietnam, its people and culture.
