Top 5 Cities in the UK
Hello Wonderful People!
The
UK is host to a great range of amazing cities, each of which have something
different to offer. Be it history, architecture, food, art, culture, drink or
scenery, you’re bound to find most of them in each and every British city. Now
I’ve not actually visited every city in the UK, but I’ve been to a fair share
of them in my 23 years, so I’ve put together a little list of my 5 favourite
cities that I think everyone should visit if they ever set foot on our lovely
little island.
London
This
is probably an obvious choice, but it really is an amazing city and I’m pretty
sure most visitors to the UK will stop off here at some point. I've now been living in London for almost a year and still have so much exploring to do. If you ever get the chance to visit, ticking the main sights off your list is a must! Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, The London Eye, Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, The Tower of London and the Shard, are just a few of the many sights to see in London. The city is also home to some of the most amazing markets ranging from food to flowers to art, so checking one out is an absolute must! Great food and drink is easy to find in London, but the prices won't be too cheerful. The quaint old English pubs are always full and it's always nice to sip a cocktail on a roof terrace, admiring the view.
Cardiff
I
am absolutely in love with Cardiff and any trip to the UK must include this
wonderful Welsh capital. I lived in Cardiff for 3 years while at university and
have been back countless times since I left, as it is just the most amazing
place. Firstly, for such a small city the nightlife is incredible. Whatever
night of the week, you’ll always find somewhere to go and you’re bound to have
a cracking time. The best time to visit Cardiff has to be when the rugby is on.
The Welsh are rugby mad, and the atmosphere in the city when Wales are playing
is electric. If you aren’t lucky enough to get tickets to a game, every bar in the
city will be playing it, so get stuck in and sing bread of heaven to your hearts content. If sport or drinking isn’t
your thing, then you might want to check out the amazing shops and restaurants
the city has to offer.
Manchester
Manchester
is my hometown and will always hold a soft spot in my heart. The city centre itself is quite sprawling and there are several areas you can visit for a bite to eat, to have a few drinks or for a night out. The Northern Quarter is a great area of the city, full of quirky bars and independent shops. If you're looking for a more classy, upmarket affair then head to Deansgate for a few drinks. The city also has a long history of sport, mainly football. So if you get the chance, try and squeeze in a football game at either Old Trafford or the Etihad Stadium. Hint: Manchester United are the better team and always will be.
Nottingham
I reckon Nottingham is often overlooked by those visiting the UK in favour of the bigger or more famously historical cities. But Nottingham has loads to offer. I have family there and it's my brother's university city, so I've been there countless times. You don't have to wander far to find something related to the folk-lore hero Robin Hood. You can also take a tour of the large underground cave network beneath the city streets and learn about the history of the city. Plus, there's a great nightlife scene in Nottingham; so if you're after a nice meal and a few drinks or a boozy night out, there will be plenty of venues to choose from.
Chester
Chester is a beautiful old Roman city, not too far from where I used to live in Cheshire. If you're a history buff, then you'll be in your element! You can take a stroll around the city walls or check out many of the Roman ruins or museums dotted around the city. Inside the walls, the streets are lined with lovely, original black and white Tudor buildings that are filled with shops and restaurants. There's also a racetrack in the city centre, so if you're a fan of horse racing, then this is a great way to spend an afternoon!
